Caused by conditions called ptosis or dermatochalasis, droopy or heavy eyelids occur because the muscle that lifts your eyelid is not working as it should, and if your lids sag enough they can obscure your upper field of vision. This can occur due to factors like aging, neurological conditions, and genetics.
Our team has a few tools to fix the “droop” through eyelid procedures like upper eyelid blepharoplasty, direct brow ptosis repair, and external levator advancement. This highly specialized procedure is designed to correct droopy or heavy upper eyelids, blending top-notch surgical skill with an aesthetic touch. Our ophthalmologists are highly regarded for their precision and expertise in eyelid procedures — we employ state-of-the-art techniques to refine and elevate your eyelids, giving you a more youthful, alert appearance.
Swelling or puffiness under the eyes, a common sign of aging or genetics, occurs when surrounding tissues weaken and fat deposits appear. Fat is not all bad; it protects the eyeball and can provide a full and youthful appearance. The trick is striking a balance between looking heavy and looking hollow. Dr. Knapper can help to improve the “bag” appearance, leaving you looking refreshed and well-rested.
The eyelid should rest comfortably against the eyeball. When the eyelid is in proper position, the eyeball is protected, nourished, and functions appropriately. Facial trauma, medical diseases, genetics, and aging can all lead to lid malpositions, causing a person to experience a redness, tearing, or irritation from misdirected lashes.
Lid malpositions lead to conditions like ectropion (the eyelid turns outward) and entropion (eyelid turns inward), which may be caused by conditions like scarring, trauma, or other surgeries. Dr. Knapper can help you to better understand the problem and your treatment options. We will address your immediate symptoms, restore the proper structure and function of your eyelids, and give you the kind of top-notch cosmetic care you deserve.
Gulfcoast Eye Care’s doctors excel in treating eyelid bumps, using advanced surgery techniques and technology to remove chalazia or styes with minimal discomfort and recovery time. Whether the bump (or spot) on your eyelid is new or has been bothering you for years, Dr. Knapper can help identify what it is and the treatment it requires.
Some bumps are benign and harmless, while others need immediate attention — it is impossible to tell which without an in-person assessment. We will help you to choose the best course of action to ensure a smooth, natural eyelid appearance, enhancing both the health and beauty of your eyes.
